This collection consists of papers generated in the town of Oakham, Mass. Included are court debtors' notices, a 1773 petition by Oakham residents, a 1790 tax list, a 1792 list of tax money for schools, an 1806 land deed, and numerous other documents pertaining to town business. The majority of the documents and correspondence in this collection concern the duties of the Overseers of the Poor, however. Also included are several letters, for the period 1826 to 1831, addressed to John Waldo Lincoln (1787-1852) of Worcester, Mass., relating to deposits of iron ore found on his Oakham farm and a 1925 letter from Charles Packard ( - ), written to a former school teacher, which contains reports of Oakham's development.
